Sedation Dentistry, Sleep Dentistry

Are you fearful of going to the dentist? Many of us are, to some extent. But some of us are so afraid that it amounts to terror. Such people fear needles, being in a helpless position, and possible pain; they may have trouble controlling their gag reflex, they may have extra sensitive teeth, or be resistant to traditional dental anesthetic.

In sedation dentistry a sedative is administered such that you will be awake through the procedures, but not anxious, and will not feel pain throughout the procedure.

Dr. Montalbano's registered nurse anesthetist will get you comfortable and then administer the sedative intravenously. This procedure allows the dentist to perform several procedures in one appointment.

When the procedures are finished, you can usually go home after an hour or so and must be accompanied by someone who can drive and / or escort you home. You'll probably feel tired and will want to take it easy for the rest of the day.
